The training will consist of theoretical and practical training during stages of the growing periods, clean and disinfect poultry holdings and basic understanding of the poultry production industry. 

Poultry: Layer Production

Content of Course: 

- The procedures for preparing the laying house receive point-of-lay chicks
- Procedures for the placements of pullets in the laying house
- Control of ventilation for comfortable environment for the layers
- Availability of the water for the layers and the good working order of the equipments
- Feed management procedures
- Settings of the lighting programs for the layers

Capabilities

When completing this course you will be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of: 

  • the procedures for preparing the laying house to receive point-of-lay pullets
  • the procedures for the placement of pullets in the layer house
  • the procedures to be used to control the ventilation for the provision of a comfortable environment for the layers
  • ensuring that water is always available to the layers and all the equipment is in good working order
  • the principles of feed management practices for layers
  • the necessity of setting the appropriate light programs to ensure a high level of egg production the manure management practices to ensure a healthy environment for layers 

On Animal Production our focus is on record keeping, ensuring optimum health for animals and how to perform basic procedures.

Basic Pig Husbandry Practices

  • Content of Course: 

- The procedures to be followed in the preparations of the farrowing house
- The procedures to be followed in the preparations of the sows for the farrowing house
- The appropriate feeding practices to different stages of pig production
- Cleaning and the disinfecting of the pig house
- The observance of bio-security in the piggery

Capabilities:

When completing this course you will be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of: 

  • preparing the farrowing house for farrowing
  • creep feeding, flush feeding and correct feeding practices.
  • the provision of potable water to the pigs
  • clean and disinfecting all pig housing facilities
  • bio-security practices carried out
  • handling of pigs, including the movement and restraint of pigs
  • communication skills to report observations all equipment to be used in all practices carried out
